We are so grateful that Petri Räisänen keep coming to our studio to inspire and share the Ashtanga Yoga tradition he learnt from Sri K Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois.

7/5 – Thursday

17.00-19.00 – Led primary series
Petri is counting the traditional vinyasa system with Sanskrit asana names, breath, vinyasa numbers, drishtis (gazing points), bandhas (locks), and asana alignments

19.15-20.30 – Workshop opening
Introduction into Ashtanga Yoga tradition and goals. Pranayama and meditation.

 

8/5 – Friday

6.00-8:00 (Group 1) or 08.15-10.15 (Group 2) – Mysore style

15.00-15.45 – Pranayama: Easy breathing and meditation exercises

16.00-18.00 –  Workshop: Healing space in Ashtanga Yoga
What is the meaning of healing space and how can we keep practicing with different body and mind types, ages and shapes. Petri is introducing a new ideas for teaching and practicing Ashtanga Yoga.

 

9/5 – Saturday

7.00-9.00 (Group 1) or 09.15-11.15 (Group 2) – Mysore style

13.00-15.30 – Workshop: Primary and Intermediate series alignments, adjustments and vinyasa
We will go through the main asanas for both series with tips, alignment information, hands on adjustments and vinyasa system.

15.45-17.00 – Healing mantras 

18.00 – Optional dinner

13.00-14.30 – Workshop: Backbend and back strengthening techniques
Backbends has many lawyers. They give a physical easiness for the body, but also a mental relief and blissful like state. Petri will introduce backbend adjustments for the beginners and advanced levels. It will feel good for sure.

About Petri

Petri Räisänen is internationally known and respected Ashtanga Yoga teacher. Petri started practicing Ashtanga Yoga in 1989 and began teaching in 1991. He is a devoted student of Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and and was authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga in 2001 by Guruji. Petri’s adjustments are described as gentle, intuitive, and therapeutic, often likened to a “magic” touch. This quality stems from his background as a traditional Finnish folk healer and naturopath. His approach is deeply personal, aiming to meet each student’s individual needs and support their physical and emotional healing.

In 2004 Petri wrote ”Kraften bakom yoga” a book that today serves as a foundational guide for many students in the Ashtanga Yoga community. In 2005, Petri wrote “Ashtanga Yoga – The Yoga Tradition of K. Pattabhi Jois” in collaboration with K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois. The book introduces the primary series (1st series) Astanga Yoga “vinyasa” method and philosophy, as well as its potential as a physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual practice. His intermediate series (2nd series) book “Nadi Sodhana” was released in 2008 and is written from the interviews with K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois from 2006-2007 in Mysore, India.
